Al Dorso is taking over the New Jersey Jackals (independent; Can-Am League), as his purchase of the club has been announced. Dorso, who also owns the league rival Sussex County Miners, will lead the Jackals under University Sports and Entertainment, LLC.
Along with the announcement of new ownership, the Jackals have revealed that Joe Redmon is taking over as their general manager. In addition, the team’s home–Yogi Berra Stadium–will be receiving a variety of upgrades.
The financial terms are not disclosed. Under the new ownership, Yogi Berra Stadium, on the campus of Montclair State University, will undergo over $1 million dollars in capital improvements to enhance the facility and fan experience. The Jackals have long-term plans to continue to play at Yogi Berra Stadium and compete as a member of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
Among the many planned upgrades to come will be a state of the art video board, the first of its kind at Yogi Berra Stadium. Additionally, plans include upgrades to the Picnic Area, Kids Zone, Craft Beer Pub and Concessions.
“Jackals baseball and Yogi Berra Stadium have long been beloved staples of the local community,” said Al Dorso, CEO of University Sports & Entertainment. “We look forward to working closely with Montclair State University and other local and regional partners to create a vibrant, ‘go-to’ destination for fun, family and corporate entertainment.”
Dorso is excited to build on the relationship with the university and strengthen the ball club’s ties to the local area. Since Opening Day in 1998, the ballpark has been host to the New Jersey Jackals Professional Baseball Team. During that time, the Jackals have won four championships and have reached the playoffs 15 times. In addition to the New Jersey Jackals Professional Baseball team, Yogi Berra Stadium will host the Montclair State University Red Hawks, as well as other collegiate and high school baseball events. Concerts and other family friendly events are also planned.
In addition to the change in ownership, the Jackals have named Joe Redmon the new general manager of the club. Redmon graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in Business Administration. He previously served as the Jackals’ Director of Corporate Partnerships. A native of Paterson, NJ, Redmon lives in Caldwell, NJ with his wife Christianne and their two dogs.
University Sports and Entertainment will take control of the New Jersey Jackals Professional Baseball Team and Yogi Berra Stadium effective immediately. Upcoming announcements will be made regarding the team’s capital improvements.
