North Augusta officials say they’re making progress on a plan for Project Jackson and a new Augusta GreenJackets (Low A; Sally League) ballpark, but they’re not sharing details about the nature of the negotiations.
In fact, the lack of information is certainly getting the attention of locals who want to know where things stand. From the Aiken Standard:
Recent TV reports have suggested the Project Jackson development will be inked within weeks. North Augusta City Administrator Todd Glover, though, said there is no specific timetable about when a deal will be finalized. He did express optimism about where things stand.
“I think we’ve overcome some major obstacles in the past week or two,” Glover said. “I think you’ll see something in the near future, but I don’t want to put a time frame on that. We’re working very hard to get this thing done and get it going.”
Project Jackson is an ambitious development with lots of moving pieces, encompassing the ballpark, 280 apartments, retail, hotel and four kinds of residential units, all served by parking ramps. As business types know, the more moving pieces, the longer it takes to reach a final deal, and that seems to be the case here.
