The State College Spikes (Short Season-A; NY-Penn League) have a new radio home, as the team has signed an agreement with NEWSRADIO 1390 WRSC. As part of the pact, 1390 am will be the new home for the Spikes Radio Network, presented by Penn State Health. The station will broadcast all 76 regular season games, plus potential playoff games, over the airwaves as well as through the TuneIn mobile radio app.
“We are thrilled to partner with Forever Media to present Spikes fans with a great flagship radio home in NEWSRADIO 1390 WRSC,” said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker. “Forever Media stations are a frequent stop on radio dials and mobile devices throughout the region, and we look forward to joining them in bringing the ballpark experience to all Spikes fans.”
Steve Jones, the “Voice of the Spikes” since the team’s inception in 2006, will return for his 11th season on the microphone with the club. Jones also serves as the voice of Penn State football and men’s basketball. Joe Putnam will join Jones on the broadcast team for the ninth straight year. Putnam, a Bellefonte native, also serves as the Manager of Communications for the Spikes and sideline reporter for Penn State football broadcasts.
“We are excited to be the new home for Spikes baseball,” said Forever Media State College General Manager Scott Cohagan. “Spikes baseball continues to be a great summer tradition for Happy Valley and we look forward to listening to Joe and Steve calling the action on NEWSRADIO 1390 WRSC.”
The Spikes will also enjoy a strong presence on Forever Media’s group of stations in the State College area, which also includes BIG Froggy 101, 93.7 The BUS, MAJIC 99, Happy 103, and ESPN 1450. The popular “Spike for a Day” contest, presented by 93.7 The BUS, will return for the 2016 season, giving one fan the chance to become a “Spike for a Day” and sign a ceremonial contract to join the team at a home game this summer.
In addition, Forever stations will be spotlighted at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park throughout the season. The Daily Fan Value Promotions schedule will feature Half-Craft Wednesdays presented by 93.7 The BUS, $1 Beer Thursdays presented by BIG Froggy 101, and 4 for $44 Friday Northwest Family Value Ticket Packages presented by Northwest and MAJIC 99.
