Another event to note: The Asheville Tourists and McCormick Field are hosting the 2015 South Atlantic League All-Star Game, scheduled for June 23, 2015.
“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to bring one of the premier events in Minor League Baseball to Asheville and to historic McCormick Field,” said Tourists president Brian DeWine. “This announcement is the culmination of a lot of work by a lot of people, including Ingles, which will be the Presenting Sponsor. Most of all I would like to thank our great fans and our tremendous city for their commitment to the Tourists and our ballpark. Without them, we would not be able to bring this great game to Western North Carolina.”
The 2015 SAL All-Star Game will mark the 56th consecutive season the Class A circuit has held a mid-season contest featuring the league’s best players. Asheville and McCormick Field previously hosted the game in 1961, 1977, and 1996. Over the years many future stars have participated in the game, including Hall of Famers Steve Carlton, Tom Glavine, Nolan Ryan and Ryne Sandberg as well as such current major league standouts as Josh Hamilton, Bryce Harper and Derek Jeter.
“The South Atlantic League is looking forward to returning to Asheville for our All-Star Game in 2015. The most talented players in the league will showcase their talents while the beautiful mountains of North Carolina and McCormick Field will provide a wonderful backdrop for the fans, ” said South Atlantic League President Eric Krupa. “With all of the activities that are being planned, I am confident that Brian DeWine, Larry Hawkins and the entire Tourists’ staff will work hard to create more fans of Asheville and the Tourists.”
