Though the final numbers aren’t in yet, city officials say they’re pleased with the financial performance of the Hillsboro Hops (short season A; Northwest League) this season.
The Hops drew 135,167 fans this season. The team’s rent at the new ballpark is partly based on attendance: the team pays $150,000 in base rent, the proceeds of a $1 ticket surcharge and $5 for each car parked. While this is not be enough to cover the annual ballpark debt of $769,336, city officials expected a shortfall. From Oregon Live:
We believe it was a successful season,” Mary Loftin, community resources manager, said.
“The numbers will tell a full picture,” she said, citing good attendance at the 3,534-seat ballpark….
Loftin said looking back at the season, the city is “very happy” with the initial feedback on the ballpark. Early complaints about sluggish lines from Ovation Food Services seemed to dissipate as the season progressed. Ovations will provide concessions for all city events.
