The Monongalia County Commission gave final approval to a tax-increment-financing (TIF) district in Morgantown that would help fund a new ballpark for the West Virginia University baseball team and potentially a NY-Penn League team.
The county has been discussing a TIF for several months in association with a developer and the university. The TIF would also apply to a new retail complex.
Next up: the state legislature will need to sign off on the TIF plan, as well as an associated sales-tax plan. The legislature next meets in February.
Besides the Mountaineers, it’s widely assumed that the Jamestown Jammers (short season A; NY-Penn League) will be setting up shop in the ballpark as well.
