We don’t report on much union news here at Ballpark Digest, so it’s worth noting that the Lake County Captains (Low Class A; Midwest League) concession company, Captains Concessions, LLC, has reached agreement with Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board Affiliated with Workers United Local 10 on a new three-year agreement.
Captains Concessions operates all of the food and beverage services at Classic Park including concessions, catering and luxury suite service, and has worked with the Local 10 since the Captains began playing in Eastlake in 2003. The agreement covers most seasonal employees of the company and will be in effect through the 2013 Captains baseball season.
“We are pleased to have reached this mutually beneficial agreement with Local 10 which ensures that many of the great employees who spend their summers with us will continue to provide great service for our fans,” said Captains Vice President & General Manager Brad Seymour.
Captains Concessions annually employs approximately 70 employees for all Captains baseball games as well as the numerous other events that take place each year at Classic Park. Negotiations for the new agreement began in February 2010 and were completed earlier last month.
“Local 10 has enjoyed the working relationship with the Lake County Captains since it opened in 2003,” said Local 10 President Mark Milko. “Although we are facing tough economic conditions, the Captains and the Local have agreed upon a new three-year contract.”
