Colorado Rockies General Partners Dick and Charlie Monfort have completed the purchase of the Casper Ghosts (rookie; Pioneer League), as the transaction has been approved by the Pioneer League and Minor League Baseball — but it remains to be seen how long the team remains at Mike Lansing Field.
“We are very happy to have finalized our purchase of the Casper Ghosts and we look forward to continuing the minor league tradition of exciting and affordable family entertainment,” said Dick Monfort. “Our group would like to thank the Pioneer League, Minor League Baseball and the prior ownership group, the Casper Professional Baseball Club, LLC., for working with us to ensure the entire process was thorough and complete.”
Whether the team remains in Casper remains to be seen; the Monforts, we’ve been told by multiple sources, have already held discussions about moving the team to Grand Junction, Col., for a closer proximity to Denver. Under one prime scenario, the team would be run by a prominent management firm already among the largest in Minor League Baseball.
In addition to the purchase, Tim Ray has been named Executive Director of the Ghosts and will begin his duties in January. Ray has been affiliated with the franchise for many years in a variety of responsibilities including broadcasting and sales. Most recently, Tim has served as Athletics/Activities Manager for the Natrona County School District. “I look forward to continuing my relationship within the Casper community and the State of Wyoming,” Ray says. My family and I are truly excited for this tremendous opportunity.”
Chris Maxwell remains as Ghosts’ General Manager and Phil Choler as the team’s Assistant General Manager.
