New naming rights deal on horizon in Winnipeg?

Winnipeg GoldeyesWith the CanWest media empire dead, it sound like we could see a new name for one of our favorite ballparks, CanWest Global Park, the home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes (independent; American Association).

CanWest Global Media Corp. has held naming rights to the ballpark since it opened. However, the bankrupt firm has been sold to Shaw Media, and the new entity has been downsizing its commitment to the Winnipeg market in terms of employment. However, this account indicates that Shaw could be negotiating to put the new name on the ballpark. The name on the Winnipeg ballpark is a pretty spectacular opportunity for the right firm — the team draws well, and it’s passed by thousands of commuters daily — so we don’t expect the team to have too many issues reaching a deal.
