The five finalists in the Richmond name-the-team contest have been announced.
Richmond Professional Baseball has announced the five finalists in the contest to name the Eastern League franchise beginning play at The Diamond in 2010. The five potential names were chosen from a pool of more than 6,000 entries from fans during an on-line entry period which ran from September 23rd – 30th.
The Five Finalists (Alphabetical):
Richmond Flatheads
Richmond Flying Squirrels
Richmond Hambones
Richmond Rhinos
Richmond Rock Hoppers
We're a little sad to see Virginians/Vees, one of the great old names in baseball, not among the finalists; even though it had no chance of being chosen, it would have been nice to see a nod to the past.
Voting on the finalist begins immediately at the Richmond Times-Dispatch website through Oct. 11.
