A big walk-up crowd last night gives the Fort Wayne TinCaps a big night, as the team surpasses its 2008 season attendance total in just 52 games.
It's been a good year for the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Low Class A; Midwest League): the newly opened Parkview Field is a gem, and the fans have responded to the team's rebranding and marketing efforts.
In a big way.
Last night the TinCaps attracted walk-up sales of 2,599 fans, leading to an overall crowd of 7,121.
That crowd pushed the season total to 261,568, surpassing last year's season attendance total of 256,693, when the team averaged 3,720 per game. Through 52 games in 2009, the TinCaps have averaged 5,030 per game, with 18 home games still remaining.
Pretty impressive. Hitting 350,000 is a distinct possibility if the weather cooperates.
