Did Yankees discriminate against veteran bartender?

John Vendikos, who tended bar at the old Yankee Stadium Stadium Cub for 27 seasons, says he wasn't hired to pour drinks at the new facility because of his age.

John Vendikos, who tended bar at the old Yankee Stadium Stadium Cub for 27 seasons, says he wasn't hired to pour drinks at the new facility because of his age.

When the Yankees moved to the new ballpark, all former employees had to re-interview for their job. When it came time for Vendikos to sit down with a hiring manager, he claims he was directly told: "Why should I hire you? You're an old man."

As New York City is the land of lawsuits, Vendikos has retained counsel and is filing a complaint against the Yankees with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

If it's true — and so far all we have is the claim of Vendikos to go on — it would be yet another in a series of serious gaffes surrounding the move to the new Yankee Stadium. Guys like Vendikos are the color that makes the ballpark an interesting place.
