It feels like the home of the Battle Creek Bombers (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) is a lot older, but it’s not; to celebrate, Notre Dame and Western Michigan square off tonight.

C.O. Brown Stadium wasn’t designed as a pro venue; city officials saw it as a way to boost their amateur offerings, a task where it performed admirably for many years as the home of the Stan Musial World Series. It became a pro venue in 1995 when the Michigan Battle Cats (Low Class A; Midwest League) moved to town and served as the home of that franchise under several different names (Battle Creek Yankees, Southwest Michigan Devil Rays) before the Bombers came to town two seasons ago.
