The overhaul of Wausau’s Athletic Park, the WPA-era home of the Wisconsin Woodchucks (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) is launched by local volunteers, who hope to raise more funds for further changes.
So far the changes are limited to the front ticket-selling area and entry pavilion. It’s mostly cosmetic changes, with materials donated by local vendors.
The bigger changes will happen after the Woodchucks season in August, when $1 million state-mandated changes are scheduled if enough money is raised. These changes, mostly concerning concessions, are needed to bring the facility to code.
