The promising young Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim twirler was killed last night after an alleged drunken driver crashed into a vehicle where he was a passenger.Nick Adenhart, the young pitcher who overcame adversity to win a roster spot this season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, was killed last night after an alleged drunken driver ran a red light and rammed his minivan into a car where Adenhart was a passenger. Adenhart was 22.
Adenhart had appeared in last night’s game for the Angels.
Adenhart was a promising young pitcher — hailed by Baseball America as the National Youth Player of the Year seven years ago — whose career was almost curtailed by an arm injury he suffered as a senior, subsequently undergoing reconstructive surgery. Still, he was drafted (albeit in the 14th round) by the Angels, who saw Adenhart bounce back from the injury and make his way through the Angels farm system before being called up to the big leagues last season. He made the team this season after an outstanding spring.
