The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners voted to retain DLR Group to design a new ballpark for the Omaha Royals; we’ll see what Stan Meredith can create with a very limited budget.
The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners voted to retain DLR Group to design a new ballpark for the Omaha Royals; we’ll see what Stan Meredith can create with a very limited budget.

The new suburban ballpark is budgeted at $20.3 million and will feature 6,000 fixed seats. DLR will receive an 8 percent fee for their design services.

Besides being involved in the design of the new College World Series ballpark in Omaha, DLR has designed several other noteworthy ballparks, including Fluor Field in Greenville and Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. We’ve been arguing the budget for the Sapry County ballpark is a tad low for a Class AAA facility, but to put the budget of the new Sarpy County ballpark in perspective: LSU spent $25 million on 19-suite, 8,786-seat Alex Box Stadium — a ballpark designed by DLR. Then again, a college facility doesn’t have many of the behind-the-scenes features required of a Class AAA ballpark.
