Hagerstown Suns radio broadcasts are coming home to WJEJ, the team’s original broadcast home.
WJEJ 1240 AM will serve as the flagship station for Hagerstown Suns radio broadcasts, the Suns announced Tuesday. WJEJ will be broadcasting all 140 Suns games for the 2009 season.
“The Suns are proud to be associated with a radio station that is so strongly tied to the local community,” Suns president Bob Flannery said. “Our partnership with WJEJ gives Suns fans one more reason to be excited about 2009.”
Broadcasting out of Hagerstown since 1932, WJEJ was the original radio station of the Suns, carrying Suns games for the team’s first 15 seasons on the airwaves.
“I’ve always been a fan of the Suns, and I’m looking forward to a new beginning,” said John Staub, owner and General Manager of WJEJ. “We will be providing the very best in equipment and the very best in radio play.”
WJEJ welcomed Flannery and Ryan Mock, Suns Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting, on the air Tuesday morning for the official announcement of the Suns’ 2009 Live Broadcast Schedule. Mock returns for his third season as the radio voice of the Suns, and will be joined behind the microphone by newcomer Darin Sense.
“It’s good to be back on WJEJ,” Mock said. “I’ve been in Hagerstown for a few years now, and during my time here I have learned that WJEJ is truly a staple of the regional culture.”
The Suns’ first game back on WJEJ will be their season-opening April 9 road matchup against Lake County. Listeners can join Mock for pre-game coverage at 6:10 p.m., in anticipation of the game’s 6:30 p.m. start.
