The Tri-City ValleyCats (short season; NY-Penn League) will give away a bobblehead of First Lady Michelle Obama as part of the team’s first annual Women in Business & Community Night. Before the game, the ValleyCats will present their Women Making a Difference Starting Lineup. Nine women from throughout the Capital District will be honored for their contributions to business and / or the community. The evening will include a networking event and business presentations by influential women. There will also be a career/goal-setting roundtable for young women and girls from the area.
In California, the Visalia Rawhide (High Class A; California League) installed a new field at Recreation Ballpark. Crews stripped the old layer of grass, which had been in place for multiple decades, and evened the underlying surface using laser-leveling technology. The process marks the first time that Rec Park has ever been laser leveled.
After multiple days of grading, workers began laying row after row of new turf. With several weeks to take root, the sod will be ready for full action by Opening Day on April 16.
Also in California, the Stockton Ports (High Class A; California League) will partner again with KSTN AM 1420 as the home of their radio broadcasts for the 2009 season.
Ports fans can tune into KSTN AM 1420 all season long to hear a broadcast of each and every game, including the two “Battle of the Champions” exhibition games against the Sacramento River Cats (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League). Zack Bayrouty, the Voice of the Ports, is returning to call the play-by-play for all Stockton games. This will be his third season at the microphone for the Stockton Ports.
“We’re very excited to work with KSTN again this season, and to be able to broadcast every game this summer as well.” said Ports President and General Manager Pat Filippone. “With this continued partnership, our fans will be able to follow the Ports as they compete to capture an unprecedented 12th franchise league championship this summer.”
