Escondido ballpark vote delayed

Tucson PadresA vote on a new ballpark for the Tucson Padres (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) in Escondido, Cal., has been delayed once again, as the City Council grapples with budgeting in the wake of potential loss of redevelopment funds.

The vote was scheduled for Feb. 16. It has been pushed back to March 2. It’s not likely the state will have acted on Gov. Jerry Brown‘s proposal to shut down California’s city and county redevelopment agencies by that time.

The city currently receives $25 million annually in redevelopment revenue. The issue is protecting that cash flow so part of it can be used to fund the $50-million ballpark.
