We have a name for the new Atlantic League team playing out of Richmond County Bank Ballpark beginning in the 2022 season: the Staten Island FerryHawks.
FerryHawks won out in a vote that included Harbor Heroes and Dragon Slayers. The name-the-team contest was run as a straight fan vote; at a team unveiling tonight, team president Eric Shuffler said that the owners decided to leave the decision totally up to the fans.
Richmond County Bank Ballpark was formerly home to the Staten Island Yankees (Short Season A; NY-Penn League).
Staten Island Entertainment, owner of the team, is led by John Catsimatidis, head of the Gristedes Foods grocery chain. His ownership group includes Shuffler; Dany Garcia, chairwoman and owner of the XFL; SNL performers Pete Davidson, Colin Jost and Michael Che; with both Yankee Global Enterprises and RedBird Capital Partners involved. New York City Economic Development Corporation is funding ballpark upgrades.
