Wednesday brings the latest milestone in the ongoing expansion of St. Louis’s Ballpark Village, as the new Live! By Loews Hotel celebrates its opening.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore-based The Cordish Companies are in the midst of a $261-million expansion of Ballpark Village, the mixed-use development located outside Busch Stadium. Over the last few months, the project has reached several milestones–including the opening of an office tower in November–and it is set to welcome its latest amenity with the debut of the Live! By Loews Hotel.
With the opening of the Live! By Loews Hotel, the area surrounding Busch Stadium gains a new 216-room hotel that will offer its guests up-close views of the ballpark and downtown St. Louis. It also represents a major part of the process of completing the Ballpark Village expansion, as its opening allows the area to feel a bit more complete. More from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
The new Live! By Loews Hotel, opening Wednesday on Clark, across the street from the St. Louis Cardinals’ Busch Stadium, is only the second of Loews’ sports-affiliated Live! concepts. Built in partnership with Ballpark Village co-developer Cordish Companies, it follows by a few months the opening of a similar hotel in Arlington, Texas, near the Texas Rangers’ stadium.
The new hotel here is also one of the final pieces of the $261 million second phase of Ballpark Village.
And with the 216-room Live! By Loews completed, the area around Busch Stadium is starting to feel less like a construction site and more like the entertainment district and neighborhood the Cardinals ownership envisioned when it partnered with Cordish over a decade ago.
“This level of luxury is unparalleled in downtown St. Louis,” St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III said in a statement. “And the design fits perfectly on the site.”
The hotel’s opening will be commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning at 11:30 CST. There will be some construction work unfolding at Ballpark Village over the coming months, as the expansion’s last major amenity–a 297-unit, 29-story apartment building–is on track to open in June.
