2019 Preview: Chicago White Sox, Guaranteed Rate Field

Goose Island 2019

Ballpark Digest is previewing what every MLB team is doing to begin the season, both on and off the field, as the 2019 season is underway. Up next: the Chicago White Sox and Guaranteed Rate Field.

Continuing a few trends they have established in recent seasons, the White Sox are emphasizing new food and beverage options at Guaranteed Rate Field in 2019. A new area sponsored by Goose Island Beer Company is among the changes being introduced this season, along with new menu items from the White Sox, Levy, and Delaware North Sportservice.

In recent years, the White Sox have made Guaranteed Rate Field a haven for craft beer lovers, and that trend continues this season. Over the offseason, the White Sox announced the creation of a new outfield seating area in right field named The Goose Island (rendering above). The result of a conversion of two outfield sections, the new space will feature a variety of seating options, including field-level seats, group party areas, individual seating, and a social space consisting of standing-room rows near the concourse. To create the feel of an island, the area will be surrounded on all four sides with running water fixtures.

As part of its partnership with the White Sox, Goose Island will brand the bar area next to the visiting bullpen, which will be known as the Goose Island Craft Kave, and a walk-up bar accessible from the 100-level outfield concourse (the outfield concourse will also feature a 10-foot Goose Island tap handle statute overlooking the ballpark). Founded in 1988 as a Chicago-based craft brewery, Goose Island was purchased by Anheuser-Busch in 2011.

The White Sox have also teamed up with their concessionaires to introduce various food items this season. The local Antique Taco is coming to Guaranteed Rate Field, serving up its lineup of options–including chicken al pastor–at taco stands in Section 109 and Section 137. Along with Delaware North, the White Sox have added the Sweet & Savory stand in Section 110, with the dessert sweet potato fries–featuring sweet potato fries, loaded with a mix of toppings that includes powdered sugar, chopped pecans, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and Nutella–among the options that can be found there.

For vegan fare, fans can seek out the super veggie sandwich, which features avocado spread and hummus on wheat bread, along with spinach, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and pumpkin seeds. This can be found at the Xfinity Zone Carvery, located in the right-field corner.

The White Sox have introduced several menu items in conjunction with Levy, including a few unique options. A mix of two options comes in the form of the bacon popcorn, served in a bucket that includes popcorn loaded with sea salt, cracked pepper, grated parmesan cheese, and bacon crumbles. It can be found at the Revolution Brewing #SoxSocial Tap Room, an area located down the left field line.

Levy’s elote nuggets will debut on the ballpark’s club level this season. This dish includes a basket of corn fritters, covered with a mixture of toppings that includes creamy cilantro lime aioli, queso cotija, and a hint of cayenne pepper.

There are two alcoholic beverage items to note, particularly as White Sox fans prepare to deal with the cold weather during early-season games. Sections 144 and 538 will feature the spiked Boozy Hot Apple Cider and Boozy Hot Chocolate. The Boozy Hot Apple Cider features Fireball Whiskey, while the Boozy Hot Chocolate includes Jim Beam and Patron XO.
