2019 Preview: Pittsburgh Pirates, PNC Park

Pittsburgh Cone- PNC Park

Ballpark Digest is previewing what every MLB team is doing to begin the season, both on and off the field, as the 2019 campaign is around the corner. Up next: the Pittsburgh Pirates and PNC Park.

For the 2019 season, the Pirates and PNC Park concessionaire Aramark are introducing new food items. The revamped menu highlights the changes to PNC Park, with several distinct offerings being made available at the ballpark.

Among the new menu items for this year is the locally inspired Pittsburgh Cone (above), which will be served at Familee BBQ behind Section 132. The Pittsburgh Cone features kielbasa, pierogi, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing served in a waffle cone.

The Pittsburgh Cone is among the new food options available in PNC Park’s general concessions area, where several other distinct offerings will be available. The Double Cheeseburger with Tater Tots will be served at Burger Kitchen, a new concession area located behind Section 115. This item features Angus chuck blend patties, American cheese, and special sauce, are served on a potato bun, with the tater tots on the side. For another offering with tater tots, fans can seek out the Cinnamon Chipotle Loaded Totchos–an item that features tater tots covered with cinnamon spiced pulled pork, grilled red onions, and green onions topped with a chipotle maple syrup glaze. Look for this offering at Riverwalk Grill, located in Section 144.

A healthy option joining PNC Park’s slate this year is the Quinoa Blueberry Salad, which will be served at The Market behind Section 118. This season will also see the introduction of a distinct desert item in the Shipwreck Sundae, which comes with jumbo marshmallows coated with chocolate and a dusting of graham crackers and is served on top of ice cream in a souvenir helmet sundae bowl. It will be available at Sweet Spot, located behind Section 107.

Other areas of PNC Park will also see new food items. The Jim Beam Left Field Lounge is introducing a Mediterranean Flatbread, along with Jerk Chicken Nacho. Fans will have ample opportunity to try those dishes, as the lounge is open to all ticket holders before, during, and after each game.

Those in the premium areas of PNC Park will also find plenty of new offerings. The Rivendale Suite Level is introducing a range of items that includes a Strip District Italian Sandwich, Chicken Milanese, Jolly Roger S’mores, and Succotash Primavera. The Hyundai Club is debuting two new interesting choices, including a tarragon honey glazed seared salmon dish with cherries and fried capers, as well as a sundried tomato risotto with caramelized shallots and shaved parmesan cheese.

On the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, fans will notice the debuting Tenders, Love, and Chicken. This area will serve gourmet chicken tenders and fries with multiple dipping sauces, as well as a Tenders Love and Chicken Signature Chicken Sandwich–featuring a country style fried chicken cutlet, topped with thick cut Applewood smoked bacon, Vermont cheddar, Roma tomatoes, leaf lettuce, house pickle, and herb remoulade, served on a sesame potato bun. The area Craft & Carved is also new this season, serving up a menu that includes a Peppercorn Turkey Sandwich.

While food items were a big focus for the Pirates over the offseason, the team also expanded one of PNC Park’s key offerings for children. After debuting last year, the Chevron STEM Zone has been expanded to include a new Virtual Reality Home Run Derby, a speed pitch that uses Diamond Kinetics sensor technology, and a “Kids Cast” broadcasting booth.
