2019 Preview: Atlanta Braves, SunTrust Park

SunTrust Park Blooper Burger

Ballpark Digest is previewing what every MLB team is doing to begin the season, both on and off the field, as the 2019 season is underway. Up next: the Atlanta Braves and SunTrust Park.

Although 2019 marks just the franchise’s third season in the ballpark, the Braves continue to refine the fan experience at SunTrust Park. The changes for this year include new food offerings, with the Braves and concessionaire Delaware North introducing unique menu items.

Among the highlights for this season is the new BLOOPER Burger (above), a loaded sandwich named for the team’s mascot that is stacked with four cheeseburger patties, a footlong hot dog, and chicken tenders. Another unique sandwich is one that has been christened as the “The Best Darn Steak Sandwich in Baseball.” This item features sliced herbed beef tenderloin, served on a fresh brioche roll with balsamic glazed arugula, roasted Portobello, crunchy fried onion, and creamy blue cheese sauce. For another distinct menu item, fans can also seek out the Chicken and Waffle Boat.

While some of the menu offerings inside the ballpark are changing, the adjacent The Battery Atlanta has received some new amenities as well. The mixed-use development serves not only as a key part of the fan experience for Braves’ games at SunTrust Park, but also as a destination on a year-round basis, and its recent additions should allow it to continue serving that purpose.

The Terrapin Taproom has been expanded to feature a new outside bar area. In addition, a new H&F Burger is open year-round and is accessible from the ballpark and The Battery Atlanta, while BURN by Rocky Patel–a luxury cigar lounge–has also opened. Since the 2018 season, The Battery Atlanta has opened two retail stores, including vinyl record store Waterloo Sunset Records and sporting goods retailer Rock/Creek Atlanta.

The Braves have debuted a few other initiatives this season. The 2019 season brings the launch of Art in the Park, a series that will see local artists create limited-edition posters. At the beginning of each home series, a new 12″ by 18″ Braves-themed piece will make its debut and be available for purchase at SunTrust Park’s Braves Clubhouse Store. A majority of proceeds from the sale of those posters will go to local arts programs through the Atlanta Braves Foundation.

Those looking to highlight their visit to SunTrust Park on Instagram will have a new destination, as the Braves have created a “a set” in the Xfinity Rooftop for the boomerang filter. In an offering aimed at families, the Braves are making SunTrust Park’s Hope & Will’s Sandlot kid’s zone free on Sundays. On Fridays, the Braves will encourage fans to wear red as part of “Red Out” Fridays–which will see the Braves take the field in their red alternate jersey.
