We have an opening date for BB&T Point, as the forthcoming ballpark will host the High Point Rockers‘(independent; Atlantic League) home opener on May 2, 2019.
Currently under construction in downtown High Point, BB&T Point will be the home of the Rockers, which will be the first Atlantic League team based in North Carolina. The ballpark is also expected to host a number of events in addition to Rockers’ games, and is being positioned as the anchor of a larger redevelopment initiative in downtown High Point.
The ballpark will host its first regular-season game on Thursday, May 2, when the Rockers take on the Sugar Land Skeeters. That will mark the beginning of a seven-game home stand, which will also include a three-game series between the Rockers and the New Britain Bees that begins on Monday, May 6. The Rockers will start their inaugural season on Friday, April 26, the beginning of a six-game road trip that includes visits to the Lancaster Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium and the Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark.
All of this information surfaced today, when the Atlantic League released its 2019 schedule. The regular-season will begin on Thursday, April 25 and conclude on Sunday, September 22. More information on the schedule can be found here.
In 2018, the Atlantic League played with seven teams and a travel team. The Rockers will replace the Road Warriors next season.
