The independent American Association team launching play in 2018 at a new Rosemont (IL) ballpark will certainly have an unusual name with strong local ties: the Chicago Dogs.
Not a bad choice, actually. Chicago-style hot dogs are a delicacy unto themselves. And there’s nothing more American than downing a hot dog or three at a ballgame. The marketing opportunities are virtually endless. From the Chicago Tribune:
“We wanted a name that captures the spirit and culture of Chicago,” Chicago Dogs co-owner Shawn Hunter said. “It had to be fun and authentic.”..
So why not just call the team the Hot Dogs?
“The Chicago Dogs was our first and only real consideration for this team’s name,” Hunter said. “It captured our hearts immediately the day we decided to commit to the vision.”
As noted, the team will be playing in a new Rosemont ballpark set to open in 2018.
