With construction underway, officials anticipate the opening of a new North Augusta, SC ballpark for the Augusta GreenJackets (Low A; Sally League) in 2018.
After years of discussion, progress has been made in recent months on the construction of the ballpark and parts of Project Jackson, the development that will surround the facility. As envisioned, Project Jackson will include a hotel/conference center, offices, retail, apartments, and other amenities.
Much of the construction began last month, and is scheduled to be completed by next spring. If that is the case, the GreenJackets could open the 2018 season at the ballpark. For right now, there are signs that the facility is taking shape. More from The Augusta Chronicle:
After the city council voted final approval to the Master Development Agreement in late January, the way was cleared for work to begin. Visitors who drive over the 13th Street Bridge can see the outline of the ball field in the earth that has been moved so far. Work on dugout walls began last week.
By next year, the work should be over and the fun can begin.
The GreenJackets recently began what is expected to be their final season at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
