Several votes relating to Project Jackson, which includes the new home of the Augusta GreenJackets (Low A; Sally League), will take place on Monday.
North Augusta, SC officials have been working to finalize the broader details of the plan. Along with the construction of a new ballpark by the beginning of the 2018 season, Project Jackson is expected to comprise of housing, retail and entertainment space, offices, lodging, and more.
The last several months have seen North Augusta come closer to finalizing key components of a plan. A municipal improvement district was reauthorized so that North Augusta could use tax increment financing (TIF) to pay for its $61 million share of the project. Additionally, a master plan with a time line and broader vision for the ballpark and surrounding amenities has been discussed in recent weeks.
Both will be on the table on Monday as North Augusta completes two of three readings for the TIF. More from the Aiken Standard:
After the meeting, City Council has scheduled a work session which includes an executive session relating Project Jackson.
Topics to be discussed include discussion of the stadium license agreement as well as discussion of an owner’s rep agreement between Greenstone Properties, the development team behind Project Jackson, and the City.
It also will include discussion of the master development agreement. Second reading of the deal took place in mid-October. Three readings are required for the agreement to take effect.
North Augusta officials have said they hope a deal can be finalized by the end of the year.
If the project is finalized, construction on the GreenJackets’ ballpark could begin early next year, setting the stage for a 2018 opening. The team will spend the 2017 season at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
