Recent progress by North Augusta, SC officials leaves the Augusta GreenJackets hopeful that a ballpark agreement can be reached by the end of this month.
North Augusta has been finalizing the terms relating to both the proposed new ballpark for the GreenJackets and Project Jackson, which also includes a surrounding mixed-use development. A recently released timeline showed that construction on the ballpark will begin in the early phases of 2017, allowing the GreenJackets to move into the new facility by Opening Day 2018.
As it stands, the GreenJackets are hopeful that North Augusta will make the neccessary progress to finalize a deal by the end of November. More from the North Augusta Star:
“We hope to see third reading by the end of the month and shovels in the ground by the beginning of 2017,” said Jeff Eiseman with the GreenJackets. “We’re aiming to open by April 2018.”
North Augusta City Council has held the first two of three required readings on the Project Jackson master development agreement. On Monday night, Council members voted to begin the process of issuing bonds, though the first issue was limited to about $5,000.
In addition to the ballpark, Project Jackson will include amenities such as housing, lodging, office suites, entertainment, retail, and green space. Construction of the development will take place in phases, with the ballpark expected to be one of the first projects completed.
