Flying Squirrels Unveil New Marquee at The Diamond

Richmond Flying Squirrels

The Richmond Flying Squirrels (Class AA; Eastern League) are adding a new marquee at The Diamond. Plans for the marquee were announced by the Flying Squirrels, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Elephant Insurance on Tuesday.

The top portion of the new marquee (pictured here) reads “The Diamond” with the Flying Squirrels, VCU and Elephant logos underneath. The new marquee will replace the antiquated static marquee that has been in front of The Diamond since the ballpark was built in 1985.

The lower tier of the marquee features a digital message center with 39 square feet of space in 16mm RGB. The marquee will display news, promotions and information while being highly-visible to 44,000 daily passengers along the Boulevard (source: www.virginiaroads.org). The marquee was designed and created by Virginia-based Holiday Signs in Chester and will be operational in advance of Opening Day, April 6, at The Diamond.

“We are excited to partner with both the Richmond Flying Squirrels and VCU on the construction of this new marquee,” said Greg Minkler, marketing director of Elephant. “Here at Elephant we understand how important our role in the community is, not only for our success, but Richmond’s success as well. Our partnership further demonstrates our commitment to the Richmond community, and our desire for a long-lasting partnership for many years to come.”

The Diamond is home to both the Flying Squirrels and VCU baseball. VCU hosts more than 40 games and events at the facility each year, starting with practice in January. The Flying Squirrels operate from The Diamond year-round and play 70 home games each season. Additionally, the Flying Squirrels host numerous community events and meetings at the ballpark throughout the year.
