In recent weeks, the Atlanta Braves have been moving items to SunTrust Park, showing signs of the ballpark’s opening.
The Braves played their finale at Turner Field on October 2. Prior to that game, there were already major announcements taking place about SunTrust Park, including the scheduling of the ballpark’s first game–an exhibition contest against the New York Yankees–on March 31.
It was shortly after the Turner Field finale that the Braves began moving some equipment to SunTrust Park. According to Braves president of development Mike Plant, SunTrust Park is on track to host some smaller events before the season begins. More from the Cobb Business Journal:
The first game scheduled at SunTrust Park is an exhibition against the New York Yankees on March 31, but Plant said there will be several events at the ballpark and adjacent mixed-use development before that matchup.
“We will have dress rehearsals, but they’re going to be quick, they’re all pretty condensed. When you have the (certificate of occupancy), the main CO that we get at the end of February, and then we’ve got about 30 soft launch events that will take place over that four-, five-week period before we play that first exhibition game,” Plant said.
County Manager David Hankerson, in his monthly update on the stadium’s construction to county commissioners in November, said the stadium is about 83 percent complete.
SunTrust Park’s regular season opener will take place on April 14, when the Braves host the San Diego Padres.
