More records news to pass along: the State College Spikes (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) set a new single-game attendance record tonight, as 6,111 fans filled Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the club’s regular-season home finale against the Williamsport Crosscutters.
The record crowd breaks the previous attendance mark of 6,105 fans, set on August 15, 2015 when the Spikes faced West Virginia.
“Thank you to all of the fans who helped make history tonight,” said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker. “This special evening created another memory for us to share with the best fans in all of Minor League Baseball, the fans right here in Central PA.”
The night’s activities included Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Lion Country Kia, as one lucky fan drove home the winner of their very own KIA in LuCKy’s KIA Giveaway. Fans were also thrilled by a post-game fireworks spectacular.
The Spikes also set a franchise record for regular season wins on Sunday, as a 3-2 victory over the Crosscutters was their 49th win of the year. The victory helped keep State College on a track for the number-one seed in the New York-Penn League playoffs with one game remaining in the regular season.
