We’re expanding our coverage today to include college softball facilities, and we have renderings of a new softball stadium to note: Jane Sanders Stadium at the University of Oregon.
The new facility, made possible by a $10 million gift from Robert Sanders in honor of his late wife, is set to open for the 2016 college softball season. The two met at the University of Oregon, where Robert, class of 1949, was a fullback on the football team and Jane, class of 1950, was a cheerleader.
The 1,500-seat stadium will be built at the current site of Howe Field, originally built in 1936 as the home of Oregon baseball and converted to a softball stadium in 1987. Construction of the new stadium will begin immediately after the Ducks play their final home game this year. There will be space to add temporary outfield bleachers for postseason games.
Design is from SRG Partnership; Howard S. Wright is the general contractor.
