This has been one of the wettest seasons on record, and all that rain is causing some serious Mississippi River flooding — with Modern Woodmen Park, home of the Quad Cities River Bandits (Low Class A; Midwest League), prepped for the water.
In and of itself, Modern Woodmen Park is very protected from the rising levels of the Mississippi River: renovations created a berm on the river side, and in recent years and the team and the city have constructed a walkway system where bridges, so to speak, connect the ballpark to higher ground used for parking.

This happens regularly, of course. Still, it’s pretty awesome to see the flood-management tools in action, especially when the river is expected to crest early tomorrow morning. The River Bandits have a weekend series beginning tomorrow; no games are expected to be impacted.
