Monongalia County Commissioners put off by a day a decision whether to move ahead with a request to form a tax-increment financing district for a new West Virginia University ballpark.
The commissioners heard testimony from interested parties at two forums yesterday regarding the creation of a TIF district for University Town Centre, where a developer would build a new ballpark for the Mountaineers and potentially a short-season A franchise. It doesn’t sound like there were major objections to the TIF district or the ballpark — just a lot of questions from citizens and business owners about how a TIF district could affect them. The $45-million project also includes sewer work and a new traffic interchange to handle the increased traffic.
The commissioners are scheduled to decide today whether to send a request for the TIF district to the State Development Office; if approved at that level, the proposal would go before the state legislature.
