It may occur down the road, but for 2011 the plan to bring two or more Japanese or Korean pro teams to train at Tuscon Electric Park has fallen short, as organizers run out of time to make a deal.
The plan would have had two or more teams training in Tucson; Tucson officials had hoped that two teams there would lure enough MLB teams to make the 110-mile drive from Phoenix to allow for a 15-game “home” season. But with the need to finalize spring-training schedules (which are amazingly unsettled for this time of year; the Cubs, of all teams, have not yet announced), the Pima County Sports and Tourism Authority, simply ran out of time.
