Ottawa Stadium, once considered one of the best ballparks in the minors, should remain open in the short term, according to a recommendation from Ottawa city staff.
Ottawa Stadium was the long-time home of the Ottawa Lynx (Class AAA; International League) and then one ill-fated entry in the independent Can-Am Association before Miles Wolff shut down efforts to launch a second team.
The ballpark sat empty last summer, but the city says there are three proposals — including two baseball-related offers — for rental of the facility in 2010, and we know one (if not both) of the proposals has to do with bringing Can-Am baseball back to the city. City staff is recommending the city move forward with one of the proposals while the long-term future of the facility is determined. At one point the ballpark site was targeted for redevelopment, but those plans fell through.
