The nascent indy circuit will begin with a fall league in the Chicago area; we presume it’s pay to play. The nascent Super Independent Baseball operation has announced the first annual Super Independent Baseball Fall League. The 2009 SIB Fall League will be held in the Chicagoland area between Sept. 20 and Oct. 11, 2009.
“We feel like the Fall League can serve as a vital annual event to provide existing and prospective independent professional baseball players with a platform to display their ability for an extended period of time and hopefully get signed by an independent organization.” SIB President Jamie Toole. “There are so many kids that have had their collegiate eligibility expire and they have a desire to continue their pursuit of a career in professional baseball, the Fall League will serve as an opportunity for these young men.”
The Fall League will consist of a player combine, a player draft, an 18-game regular season, and a playoff. Given the timing and the lack of a solid location announcement, we’re guessing this is a pay-to-play operations for players wanting some exposure.
