One good reason to applaud new ballparks: potty parity

It’s rare when a new ballpark doesn’t offer more restrooms than its predecessor. In New York City, one great upgrade to the new Yankee Stadium and Citi Field will be the presence of many more ballparks, especially those designed for women.

In the design world, it’s called potty parity. And the two new Gotham ballparks will feature serious upgrades on the toilet front.

It may be the biggest moment “for potty parity that we have seen, to have two big facilities open at the same time, and all these restrooms open at once,” Kathryn Anthony, a professor of architecture at the University of Illinois and a board member of the American Restroom Association, told The New York Times.

In all, the two new ballparks will feature 1,500 new bathroom facilities, 30 percent more than in the old Yankee Stadium and 10 percent more than was found at Shea Stadium, despite the fact the old facilities held far more fans.
