Brownsville pulls public money from new ballpark

The Brownsville (Texas) City Commission has withdrawn $7.5 million in funding for a new United League Baseball ballpark, putting the future of the project in doubt unless a developer steps up to finance the project. Developer Richard Hope had proposed a $21-million development centered on the new ballpark. The developer, Richard Hope, says he’s working on private financing for the project but remains hopeful the city will restore funding. It doesn’t sound like legal issues surrounding United League Baseball had anything to do with the decision of the City Commission; it was more a response to challenging economic times.
