It’s been targeted by vandals and was abandoned by professional baseball many years ago, but the former home of the Maine Guides (Class AAA; International League) in Old Orchard Beach has been the subject of a renovation by local preservationists, who want to see the old ballpark renovated and serve as the home for local high-school baseball. In the photo below you can see the damage wrought by an arsonist, who ended up taking out part of a luxury box. Linda Jenkins, head of the local committee seeking to save the ballpark, sent these photos and others of volunteers working to clean up the place. Their efforts are having an impact in this small Maine community: In a referendum last week voters overwhelmingly rejected a proposal giving the city the power to sell the ballpark and surrounding land.
