Macon Name the Team Contest Extended

Coastal Plain League

Initially set to end on Monday, the name the team contest for Macon’s upcoming Coastal Plain League team has been extended to Wednesday.

The planning process is unfolding for the new Macon team, which will begin play at Luther Williams Field next summer as the latest entry to the Coastal Plain League. Leading up to the summer collegiate league club’s launch, fans are being given the opportunity to suggest names through a name the team contest.

Participants will now have until Wednesday to submit names via Maconbaseball2018.com. The contest has been well received to this point, something that has not gone unnoticed by team officials. More from The Telegraph:

“The initial response has been tremendous,” team President Todd Pund said in the statement.

More than 1,000 suggestions have been submitted, but the deadline is now 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Team co-owner Steve DeLay said the identity and logo are critically important for the team’s success.

“Our intent is to narrow it down pretty quickly based on the logo ideas our designer can develop,” DeLay said.

The franchise’s arrival next year will be notable for a number reasons, one of which being the $2.5 million in improvements taking place at Luther Williams Field. Luther Williams Field is a venerable facility, as it originally opened in 1929 and has hosted a number of affiliated minor league teams during its history, the most recent of which was the Macon Braves (Low A; Sally League), whose last season at the ballpark was 2002.
