Arizona Diamondbacks: Chase Field Preview

Diamondbacks Churro Dog 2.0

With Opening Day a sellout, the large crowd expected at Chase Field for the 2017 Arizona Diamondbacks season opener will see an open roof, a slew of new food and drink offerings and the presence of several new partners.

“The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom” may have originally been penned by William Blake, but baseball fans will recognize it as something said by Annie Savoy in Bull Durham. If this is true—and who would question William Blake and Annie Savoy?—then the latest version of the Churro Dog 2.0 from the Diamondbacks and concessionaire Levy Restaurants, shown at the top of this page, will be sure to enlighten. This year’s version begins with a base of an iced long john, topped with a churro rolled in crumbled Oreos, chocolate sauce, strawberry topping, frozen yogurt and whipped cream. Yes, as excessive as it sounds.

A new stand near Section 105, Sizzle & Cheese, features burgers, grilled cheese sand and milkshakes, using locally sourced Danzeisen Dairy milk.

Diamondbacks Bacon Baguettes

For those seeking something more substantial, a Bacon-Wrapped Pretzel Baguette is the ticket. Served at Taste of Chase in Section 130, it’s exactly as advertised: a pretzel baguette stuffed with Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese, wrapped with bacon and served with jalapeño ranch and honey mustard dips.

You’ll want to drop by the Draft Room (previously the Arizona Baseball Club) for a brew from Four Peaks Brewing Company, now a Valley institution. Fans will enjoy seasonal beer tastings featuring Four Peaks limited-release craft beers, a suggested food and beer pairing menu and new creations at the Chef’s Table, and new menu items that incorporate signature Four Peaks beers, such as Kilt Lifter. While the emphasis at the Draft Room will be on Four Peaks brews, beers from other Arizona microbreweries will be offered as well; 20 tap lines are installed.

For those who seek something other than beer as a relaxing beverage, fans can find spiked Maui Wowi Smoothies at kiosks at section 118 and 326. You can add Malibu Rum and Roger Clyne’s Mexican Moonshine to enhance that smoothie.

The Diamondbacks are also expanding offerings on weekends with La Terraza, open for every Friday-Sunday home game. Located in the Upper Right Field concourse, the La Terraza features a new portable serving Micheladas, a beer cocktail with lime juice, salt and tomato juice. The D-backs Street team will be there with a prize wheel, giving out about 200 prizes each game, and there will be Latin music throughout the area.

Finally, virtual reality will be showcased in the Cox Connects VR Bullpen, as the D-backs and Cox Communications will provide exclusive VR content for fans to enjoy unique baseball perspectives, such as the view catching or hitting off a Major League pitcher, fielding ground balls, catching fly balls or unique behind-the-scenes access. It’s not exactly a real-time look at the current game, but it’s a good way to see where the game and VR are going. The VR Bullpen is located along the main concourse in center field.
