Fayetteville Team Branding to Be Unveiled September 12

Buies Creek Astros

The current Buies Creek Astros (High A; Carolina League) are set to unveil a rebranding on September 12, an announcement that will come ahead of the club’s 2019 move to Fayetteville.

Owned by the Houston Astros, the Buies Creek Astros have spent the 2017 and 2018 campaigns at Campbell University’s Jim Perry Stadium while awaiting the completion of a new ballpark in nearby Fayetteville for the 2019 season. It has been expected that a name change will coincide with the shift to the new ballpark, and the franchise is now preparing to unveil that new identity.

The new name will be unveiled September 12 as part of a public event. Once the name is unveiled, it will mark another sign of the new ballpark’s opening for the start of the 2019 season. More from the Fayetteville Observer:

Mark Zarthar, president of the Fayetteville Baseball Club LLC, said Tuesday that a public celebration to unveil the name is scheduled for Festival Park from 5 to 9 p.m. The event will be held yards from the $37.8 million stadium under construction for the Advanced Class A Carolina League affiliate that is scheduled to begin play here in 2019.

“The most common question I’ve been asked as I walk through the streets of Fayetteville is regarding the team name,″ Zarthar said. “I view that as a positive sign and shows the community here is excited about the arrival of our team, and are anticipating what our team name will be.″

The impending rebrand has been taking shape for some time. In June 2017, the club unveiled a slate of name finalists that included Fatbacks, Fly Traps, Jumpers, Wood Dogs, and Woodpeckers. In May of this year, it was learned that the team’s color scheme will consist of black, gray, and red, but the final decision on a new name awaits.
