In honor of mascot Rall E. Camel, the Great Lakes Loons (Low A; Midwest League) will play as the Great Lakes Camels on August 22.
Rall E. Camel has been a fan favorite at Dow Diamond since 2012. From a personal call on the scoreboard late in games to adding a secondary mascot, the Loons love all that Rall E. Camel has to offer at Dow Diamond.
On Wednesday, August 22, the Loons will become the “Great Lakes Camels” and wear a special uniform and ball cap for their game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
The game goes hand-in-hand with Hump Day Happy hour, where select domestic draft beers are $2.50 from gates open until one hour after scheduled first pitch. The mascots will swap places for the night. Lou E. Loon, the ambassador of fun, will play the sidekick role to Rall E. Camel, usually the team’s hype man.
The uniforms feature a clean and classic look, mimicking the style of the Loons MLB affiliate, the Los Angeles Dodgers, while also existing on its own merit. The look leans hard on the red color to maintain the Loons palette. There is also a minimalist camel sleeve patch, echoing the sleeve of the Loons’ green jersey. The caps feature a camel with black and red outlining the brown head and neck.
For a $10 add-on to a game ticket, fans can receive a limited edition Great Lakes Camels t-shirt. The shirt is only acquirable by placing an order by 5 p.m. on August 15. To order, fans can call 989.837.BALL.
The team has published a detailed look at the Camels branding here.
