We have a name and home for the new High A Carolina League team owned and operated by the Houston Astros: the Buies Creek Astros will be playing out of Jim Perry Stadium on the Campbell University campus for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
The location is no surprise: we’ve been reporting for months that Jim Perry Stadium, home of the Fighting Camels, would be the temporary home to the team while a new Fayetteville ballpark was under construction. Jim Perry Stadium, named for the Cy Young Award winner (1970) who attended Campbell, seats 630 but is slated for expansion for the 2017 season.
Astros President of Business Operations Reid Ryan, Astros Senior VP of Business Operations Marcel Braithwaite, Buies Creek and Greeneville Astros General Manager David Lane, Carolina League President John Hopkins and Fayetteville Councilmember Jim Arp will be joined by Campbell University President J. Bradley Creed and Director of Athletics Bob Roller tomorrow at a noon ET/11 a.m. CT press conference.
