During 90’s night on July 7, the Fresno Grizzlies (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) will host Grizz Burger, a tribute to the 1997 film Good Burger. In addition to specialty jerseys and food items, the promotion includes an appearance by Good Burger star Kel Mitchell, who will be on hand for autographs and photos during the game.
As a special twist on the promotion, the Grizzlies will wear special Grizz Burger jerseys for the game, with Reno outfitted in “Mondo Burger” jerseys; Mondo Burger being the somewhat sinister burger joint that opened adjacent to Good Burger in the movie as their main competitor and a threat to, in this case, Grizz Burger.
“Nickelodeon and The Fresno Grizzlies’ mash-up is gonna be awesome! Trust me you will not want to miss it! Welcome to Grizz Burger, Home of the Grizz Burger, Can I take your order? Whoooooooaaaaaaa!” said Mitchell, half of the late-90s kid’s comedy team Keenan & Kel, who starred in the hit Nickelodeon sketch show of the same name from 1996 to 2000, along with Good Burger.
The Grizz Burger and Mondo Burger jerseys will be auctioned off during a silent auction as the game goes on, and winning fans will be able to receive their game-worn jersey on the field after the game, autographed by the player.
A concession stand at Chukchansi Park will also be converted into “Grizz Burger” for the evening. Burgers, fries and Ed’s “special sauce” included!
“So many late-20 and 30-somethings definitely remember Kel’s iconic saying from Good Burger, and of the younger ones, their parents probably have it memorized too if they took them to see the movie,” said Sam Hansen, Director of Marketing for the Grizzlies. “’Grizz Burger’ is our spin on celebrating the 20th anniversary of this epic contribution to young adult cinema, and we may have even more ‘Grizz Burger’ surprises in store for fans that come help us remember the great decade that was the 90s on July 7.”
