With their time at Space Coast Stadium winding down, the Washington Nationals are showing their gratitude to Viera. Before this evening’s game at Space Coast Stadium, the Nationals will give a donation aimed at improving the local high school baseball experience.
As a thank you to the Viera, Fla. community, the Nationals will present a $10,000 donation to Hawks RBI Club, Inc., a nonprofit organization which raises funds for Viera High School’s baseball team.
The Nationals have held Spring Training at Space Coast Stadium in Viera since the organization moved to Washington, D.C. in 2005. The donation is intended to express the organization’s gratitude to Viera, and will be used for the construction of a new hitting/pitching facility on Viera High School’s campus. Viera is currently the only high school in Brevard County that does not have an on-campus field or practice facility.
Viera High School head baseball coach Robert Doty will accept the donation on the Space Coast Stadium field prior to the Nationals’ game against the New York Yankees at 5:05 p.m. The donation will be from the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation, the 501(c)(3) charitable arm of the Washington Nationals Baseball Club.
