New for 2016: Founders Park

University of South Carolina GamecocksWe have a new name for the home of University of South Carolina Gamecocks, as the school has sold Carolina Stadium naming rights to Founders Federal Credit Union, resulting in Founders Park for 2016.

The sale is still subject to approval USC trustees, which is expected to happen today.

It’s not unusual to see college sell naming rights to facilities, and the intention at USC was to sell naming rights to the ballpark from the very beginning in 2009; Carolina Stadium was always viewed as a temporary moniker. The college naming-rights trend is in its infancy; for every Founders Park and Blue Bell Park at Texas A&M there are a hundred Siebert Fields and Granderson Stadiums, named for former coaches and donors.

According to The State, the naming-rights deal is worth $4.5 million over 10 years.
