It’s official: the Frederick Keys (High Class A; Carolina League) sold naming rights to their ballpark, with the new moniker of Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium set for 2015 and beyond.
The new name was approved by the city last night.
“Nymeo is such a tremendous community asset and innovative business leader to everyone in the greater Frederick area,” said Keys General Manager Dave Ziedelis. “They are the perfect match to partner with us and the City of Frederick on this worthwhile endeavor.”
With approximately 23,000 members, Nymeo is a cooperative, not-for-profit financial institution serving all of Frederick County’s banking needs. Since inception in 1933, Nymeo has distinguished itself through innovative bank concepts, low interest rate loans and top-tier customer service. Headquartered in Frederick, Nymeo’s membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, volunteers, or conducts regular business in Frederick County — as well as their immediate family members and household residents. Aside from Frederick, Nymeo also has branches in Montgomery and PG counties.
“We could not be more excited to partner with the Frederick Keys in this endeavor,” said Nymeo President and CEO Vicki Johnston. “The core values of the Keys as they relate to the community align perfectly with Nymeo’s, making them the perfect community partner for us. Both organizations are committed to the youth in our community and helping them achieve greatness.”
The seven-year partnership between the Keys and Nymeo will serve to strengthen the legacy of Harry Grove Stadium. Opened in 1990, the stadium was built thanks to the generosity of the Grove family. The ballpark is named in memory of Harry Grove who was one of the founders of the Frederick Hustlers, the first professional sports team in Frederick. This upcoming season marks the 100-year anniversary of the Hustlers, and the city’s first professional championship.
“I am very excited to see this partnership with Nymeo come to fruition,” said Frederick Mayor Randy McClement. “Harry Grove Stadium is an asset to The City of Frederick and has provided many hours of enjoyment and excitement to baseball fans of all ages. We are proud the Frederick Keys and Nymeo formed this partnership to continue the great tradition of baseball in our city.”
The Grove has undergone more than $5 million in renovations over the last few years. With Nymeo’s assistance, the club will continue to invest in stadium improvements and the fan experience, longtime hallmarks of Frederick Keys baseball.
In 2015, the Keys begin their 27th season and their 26th at the Grove. During that time, more than 7.3 million fans have passed through the gates.
